Men's Basketball Perfect at Home With Win Over Chapman

SANTA CRUZ, CA---On a dark and stormy night, the near capacity crowd and the swarming UC Santa Cruz defense pulled off the perfect storm as the Slugs beat Chapman 44-43 in a game that was not decided until Brandon Lin’s highly contested shot glazed off the side of the back board and fell harmlessly to the floor as the buzzer sounded. SANTA CRUZ, CA.--The Spring Advanced Player Development Camp is a two-day intensive camp designed for the elite-level player who is motivated to play at the college level. Not only will this camp allow players to showcase themselves in front of college coaches, it will also give players a taste of what college soccer is all about on one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. Men's Basketball Gets Win Over Simpson University

REDDING, CA.-- Brent Jacobs moves up to second on All Time Rebound list as Slugs defeat Red Hawks. With five players in double figures, UC Santa Cruz rolled to an 86-77 victory over Simpson University. Slugs Defeat California Lutheran University for the Second Time

SANTA CRUZ, CA--
For the second time this season, UC Santa Cruz was able to defeat Cal Lutheran by 10 points, this time winning 61-51 before the home crowd at the Slug Dome. Down 2-0 before the game even started due to a technical foul for a dunk during warm ups, the Slugs’ Jamien Jones tied the game up 29 seconds into the game on two free throws of his own.(more)

ROCKLIN, CA.--The first game of 2012 had a slow start, a great middle and a poor finish as the Slugs dropped an overtime game to William Jessup University, 83-73. Slugs Defeat California Lutheran University

THOUSAND OAKS, CA--
For the second night in a row, the Slugs shot 50% from the field and held their opponents to less than 35% as Santa Cruz defeated Cal Lutheran 60-50 to run their record to 5-6 for the season.  In doing so, the Slugs went undefeated to capture the SCIAC Classic for the second time in three years.(more)

Men's Basketball Dominates the Beavers

PASADENA, CA.--Pushing from the opening tip, the UC Santa Cruz Slugs ran away with a 67-43 victory over the Caltech Beavers on Saturday night. From the beginning, the Slug offensive priority was to get the ball inside and this turned out to be a very successful approach. Jacobs Soars Over The Oaks

SANTA CRUZ, CA- With five Slugs scoring in double figures, UC Santa Cruz was able to outscore Menlo College 83-73 in the home opener at the Slug Dome. Led by Brent Jacobs making 10 out of 12 shots in the paint, the men from Cruz were able to outscore the Menlo Oaks 48 to 30 in the paint to run their record to 3-5 for the season. (more)

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- The first home game of the 2011-12 season is against the Menlo College Oaks. The Acorns are currently 2-8 with victories over Johnson and Wales and Academy of the Arts. Men's Basketball Get Fourth in the Lee Fulmer Memorial Tournament

REDLANDS, CA --During the third-place game, Chapman University and UC Santa Cruz battled it out in an evenly matched contest. Neither team found its rhythm for quite some time until the Panthers broke a 19-all tie at the two-minute mark on a sophomore forward Nick Dragovich (La Crescenta, CA) lay-up. Chapman mustered a halftime lead of three points, which eventually stood up for the 74-65 win. Midway through the second period, the Panthers erupted for a 15-2 run to put the game away, highlighted by back-to-back buckets by freshman guard Taylor Hamasaki (Mission Viejo, CA).. (More)

Men's Basketball Defeats Arizona Christian in Their Opening Game of The Lee Fulmer Memorial Tournament

REDLANDS, CA --The third contest featured a double-overtime battle with UC Santa Cruz finally knocking off Arizona Christian University by a score 92-86. Men's Basketball Gets Win in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, WA--- The drought is over in Eastern Washington. For the first time in school history the University of California Santa Cruz Banana Slugs won a game in Washington against a team from Washington.  Playing back-to-back games for the first time all season, the Banana Slugs came home with a 76-67 victory. In his best game of the young season, senior Brent Jacobs recorded his first double-double of the season, pulling down 11 rebounds and scoring 13 points to go along with 2 steals and a season high 2 blocks. Slugs Zoned Out by Whitman

WALLA WALLA, WA --Sometimes you are in the zone and sometimes you are not. For most of the night, the Whitman Missionaries played a zone defense, completely shutting down the Slugs offense as Whitman won their first game of the year 68-56 .Early on, Santa Cruz worked inside out very well to take an early lead. Spencer Wells dropped in a three off of a Tyler Hunt assist to score the first Slug basket. Women's Basketball Falls To Pacific Lutheran

TACOMA, WA--- Pacific Lutheran was on fire this evening when it stepped on the court to face UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference women's basketball game in Olson Auditorium. The Lutes came out on top, 62-53, in their season opener. The star of the night for the Lutes was junior guard Shelly Kilcup. In the first six minutes she snagged four rebounds, and she found her shot a minute later with a three-pointer for the Lutes. (more)

SPOKANE, WA--- On a cold night in the Pacific Northwest, the Slugs shooting matched the weather. UCSC shot an ice cold 38% to lose to the #12 ranked Whitworth Pirates, 70-54. This drops UC Santa Cruz to 0-2 while Whitworth improves to 1-0. After taking an early 6-5 lead off of two threes by sophomore Trent Reeves, Whitworth shut down the Slugs for almost 5 minutes before Tyler Hunt dropped in another three with 13:47 left in the first half to make the score 17-9 in favor on the Pirates. Slugs Lose Close Contest Against UC Davis

DAVIS, CA--- In the end, the taller Division I UC Davis Aggies slipped by the Division III UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs 84-78 at The Pavilion on the Davis campus. For most of the game, there did not appear to be a difference in NCAA division or talent. The smaller and usually quicker Slugs outshot the Aggies from the field 50.9% to 43.9%, held their own on the boards, and dished out seven more assists than the Aggies. (more)

THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- An overtime defensive miscue by UC Santa Cruz provided a premium scoring opportunity for Concordia-Moorhead. In the 98th minute Sarah Rounds stole possession from the Banana Slugs central defender and raced towards goal for a one-on-one with the keeper. Women's Soccer Makes NCAA Regionals

SANTA CRUZ, CA---November 7, 2011 was a day of anticipation and excitement for the UCSC Women’s Soccer Team and in the Athletic Office in general as they found out that their squad is advancing to the NCAA playoffs since their hiatus last season. After what was a disappointing season in 2010, going 1-13-2 after a history of making it to the playoffs every year since 2006, this year it was time to dust off the shock and embrace the goal that the 2011 squad achieved. Slugs Defeat Academy Of The Arts

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- On Saturday, For senior Sam Allen, the comfortable confines of Kezar Pavillion led to a career high night as he helped lead the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs to an 82-68 exhibition victory over the Academy of Art University, a NCAA Division II programs.  The Slugs were able to hold off the San Francisco program with scholarships and Division I kickbacks. In a game that was tight for the entire 40 minutes, there were 23 lead changes and 10 tie scores.  The final margin of victory by the Slugs was the largest lead of the game.   (More)

UCSC Women's Tennis Final Ranking #21

SANTA CRUZ , CA-- The UC Santa Cruz Women's Tennis Team finished the year ranked at #21 in the nation, and #4 in the West Region. This is the highest ranking for the program since 2007, and improved five spots from the end of last season. Mokhtari Fall to Chen in First Round

CLAREMONT , CA-- Sophomore Ariana Mokhtari lost a close match in the first round of the NCAA Individual Championships. After losing the first three games to Laura Chen, the #4 ranked player in the nation from Carnegie Mellon, Mokhtari stormed back to win six games in a row and take the first set 6-3. Chen took a close second set after stepping up her play to take the second set 6-3. (more)

Solar-Powered Scoreboard Coming to Lower East Field

SANTA CRUZ, CA--For the past two decades, if you went to a soccer game at UCSC’s Lower East Field, it helped if you had excellent eyesight.
“The small, portable scoreboard is positioned directly across the field from where the guests sit, but it’s not ideal,” said Ryan Andrews, UCSC’s executive director of Student Engagement. “You’ve got to have pretty good eyes. It just doesn’t feel right.”(more)

SANTA CRUZ, CA--In one of the most dramatic Dual matches ever played on our courts we dropped a very tough one to our So Cal rivals #3 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripts.
