Vision Statement

The Athletic Training Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz will strive to provide every student-athlete with the most comprehensive, highest quality individual sports medicine health care available in a professional, efficient, and compassionate manner.

Mission Statement

The mission of UCSC Athletic Training is to maintain the health, safety, and welfare of the UCSC student-athlete through prevention, recognition, evaluation, referral, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Under the guidelines of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, UCSC Athletic Training has developed an appropriate injury prevention program and provides quality athletic training services to student-athletes.

A diversified program of prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation will assure a positive healthy recovery experience, an improved quality of life, a safe return to full athletic participation and continued athletic success. This will be accomplished by:

  • Respecting the dignity of each individual student-athlete and recognizing differences in gender, race, and cultural background.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of both written and verbal information obtained from the athlete.
  • Thoroughly and competently evaluating each injured athlete in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the NATA, referring the athlete to the designated physician when deemed essential and necessary.
  • Accurately and regularly documenting each injured athletes progress and care following athletic training staff policies and procedures.
  • Staffing the athletic training room(s) during posted hours
