Athletic training is practiced by Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC), health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.

Primrose Pisares joined the UCSC athletic training staff in 2005 as an assistant athletic trainer. She began her career in athletic training as an intern at Hartnell College after graduating in 1997 from the University of California at Santa Barbara where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Physiology. As an intern she worked with many skill levels of competition which ranged from youth sports to semi-pro soccer. After becoming certified in 2001 she attended the Arizona School of Health Sciences and graduated with a Masters degree in Sports Health Care in 2003. While there, she completed various clinical rotations that included rehabilitation clinics, orthopedic physicians offices, as well as collegiate and high school settings.
Upon return to California, Primrose worked at various community colleges in the area until joining UCSC but continues to work at Gavilan College during the football season. She is a member of the NATA and a qualified examiner for the NATABOC. In addition, she is an Approved Clinical Instructor for San Jose State University.
Primrose grew up on the Central Coast and enjoys performing Polynesian style dance and playing volleyball as well as various other hobbies and outdoor activities.

This is Danielle Techner's first year as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at UCSC. After she graduated with her Masters in Athletic Training she began working at a local clinic. She received her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology; Exercise Science and Fitness in 2009 from San Francisco State University. During her undergraduate education she volunteered in the athletic training rooms at Skyline College and City College of San Francisco. She received her Masters of Science in Athletic Training in 2011. She completed the first year of her Masters of Science in Athletic Training at the University of Hawaii Manoa where she worked with the UH Football and Women's Basketball teams as well as various sports at a local high school. The final year of her program was completed at Bridgewater State University in MA where she worked with BSU Men's Soccer, Women's Basketball and Baseball.
She is certified to apply SpiderTech Tape, administer the Functional Movement Screen, and teach TRX Suspension Training classes for sports medicine. She has also been a certified lifeguard sense 2006.
Danielle is a Santa Cruz native who enjoys swimming, running, and any outdoor activity.
Charlie Sayles is in his first year as a Graduate Assistant after receiving his Bachelors of Science from the University of Toledo. While at Toledo he spent time working with Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Men’s Basketball, and Football as well as working at a high school and Physical Therapy clinic. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Athletic Training at San Jose State. Charlie is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and enjoys playing guitar, swimming, and other outdoor activities in his free time.
