Ashley Tennant
Title: Assistant Coach
Ashley Tennant has been established in the Santa Cruz volleyball community for five years now. Before coming here, she earned her B.S. in Kinesiology and her Masters in Coaching & Athletic Administration.
Tennant, a Southern California native, was recruited to play at the University of Rhode Island from 2009-2013. When she graduated she was ranked 14th in school history in digs, 17th in matches played, 19th in sets played, and 27th in service aces. During her time at URI she was a team captain, SAAC President, and a member in the Women's Leadership Coalition. She also worked in the Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence unit on campus as a Peer Advocate.
She first stepped foot on UCSC's campus in 2013 as a coach for the Nike Volleyball Camp that runs every summer. She was a coach of the camp for two years and then became a director of the camp the following two summers. Ashley has also been the boys director at Main Beach Volleyball Club, the only boys club in the county, from 2015-2018. She led her 14U boys team to a top 4 ranking in Northern California , earning the team a bid to the Junior Nationals in 2016. That same year she also coached beach volleyball locally and some of her players currently compete collegiately.
In addition to club, Tennant is going into her 8th high school season in Santa Cruz county. She will return for her fourth year as the head boys varsity coach for San Lorenzo Valley HS. She originally was the head girls varsity coach at SLVHS from 2014-2015 until switching to Aptos High for the past two seasons. At Aptos, Ashley was voted Coach of the Year in 2016 while her team maintained an undefeated league season, capturing the title outright for the first time since 2009. That same team made it to the Central Coast Section Championships and ended their season with a loss in the quarter-finals of the NorCal Championships. The Mariners repeated a league championship in 2017 after graduating their two-time MVP.
Outside the area, Tennant currently coaches her fifth team at Mountain View Volleyball Club after originally becoming a coach in Southern California at Goldenwest Volleyball Club from 2010-2014 where she won a bronze medal in the SCVA Junior National Qualifier as an assistant her first year out of college in 2014.
She has followed the Slugs program since 2010 as many of her friends have competed here at UCSC and she is honored to be apart of this coaching staff.
