UCSC Athletics Beach Clean Up with the Surf Riders Foundation

katie vb
Twenty-five members of the men’s and women’s swim team, as well as eight from the men’s and women’s soccer team, participated in a beach clean up with the Surf Riders Foundation of the Santa Cruz Chapter at Twin Lakes Beach on the morning of Saturday, March 01, 2008 from 11 am to 1 pm. We collected trash on the beach, between the rocks of the harbor, and up the lagoon waterway to accumulate an impressive amount of 111.75 lbs of trash and 12 lbs of recycling. UCSC student athletes represented more than 40% of the total amount of volunteers there that day (total of 80 volunteers, Richard A. Ferdinand, Surf Rider Foundation Beach Clean Up Coordinator). ) It was a gorgeous day and everyone had a great time! Event was organized by Bobby Petro, community service chair of the UCSC Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and member of the Men’s Soccer team.
