Slugs Continue to Play Strong on the Road

The UC Santa Cruz Women's Volleyball team lost a tough, five game match to NCAA Division II, CSU Monterey Bay on Tuesday, September 16th. The Slugs took the first two games 25-18, 25-22 only to drop the next two games 12-25, 21-25. The fifth game was extremely close and exciting going into extra points but coming up short 18-20. Leading for the Slugs was Senior Outside Hitter Megan Wisniewski with 13 kills, 4 digs and 3 blocks. Junior Setter Amy Knight had a double-double with 34 assists, 12 digs and 3 aces for the match. Slugs Finish Week With a Perfect 5-0 Record

The UCSC Women's Volleyball team started off the week with a solid win over the Bethany Bruins of Scotts Valley (25-9, 25-23, 25-16). Leading the Slugs was Senior Outside Hitter Megan Wisniewski who racked up 11 kills hitting .364 for the match.

UCSC then traveled down south to compete in the Cal-Lu-Fornia Volleyball Tournament hosted by Cal Lutheran University. First up was Claremont-Mudd-Scripps who were defeated by the Slugs in three straight sets (25-17, 26-24, 25-19). Leading the way for the Slugs were their Outside Hitters, Megan Wisniewski and Katie English, who each tallied 10 kills for the match. (more)

Slugs Go 3-1 at Pacific Coast Classic

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The UCSC Women's Volleyball team had another great weekend at the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by the Claremont Colleges. Up first against the Slugs was NCAA DIII Lewis & Clark. UCSC defeated Lewis & Clark in 5 games (20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 19-15, 15-12). Senior Outside Hitter Megan Wisniewski led the team with 19 kills, 2 digs and 1 block. Junior Middle Blocker Jessica Flood contributed 12 kills, 4 digs and 3 blocks and Senior Middle Blocker Daniella Reagan had 11 kills and 5 blocks for the match. (more)

Slugs Finish Weekend In Oregon 2-2, Defeating Pacifc 3-1

FOREST GROVE ­ Pacific edged out a close first set, but could not come out on top of the final three stanzas as UC Santa Cruz took the match from the Boxers, 25-27, 25-22, 27-25, 25-20, in the Boxer Kickoff Volleyball Invitational Sunday at the Pacific Athletic Center.

The Boxers (1-2) held off a late surge by the Banana Slugs (2-2) to win game one, but could not overcome the Slugs' best hitting performance of the tournament. UC Santa Cruz posted a .180 attack percentage for the tournament, while the Boxers hit .142. (more)
