Seed CSU East Bay Defeats the Slugs in Their Second Match of the
Tournament
Los Angeles,
CA -- Cal State East Bay, the No. 111 seed, defeated No. 10 UC Santa Cruz
7-5 to advance the the ninth place game of the 2008 WWPA Women's Water
Polo Championship hosted by Loyola Marymount at the Burns Recreation and
Aquatics Center Saturday morning. The Pioneers were led by Mary Rosa's

Fall to CSU San Bernardino in Opening Game
Los Angeles,
CA -- Cal State San Bernardino, the leagues top scoring team with 316
goals entering Friday, added to that total witha 12-7 win over UC Santa
Cruz in game three of the 2008 WWPA Women's Water Polo Championship at
Loyola Marymount Friday morning. The No. 7 seed Coyotes advance to face
host and No. 2 seed LMU at 4:00 p.m. (more)

for 2008 WWPA Championship Announced
UC Santa Cruz earns the
No. 10 seed of the 2008 WWPA Women’s Water Polo Championship, which
will be held April 25-27 at Loyola Marymount University.
Los Angeles, CA (April
21) – UC Davis, who finished the regular season 12-1 against fellow
Western Water Polo Association foes, has been tabbed the top seed
for the upcoming WWPA Women’s Water Polo Championship hosted by
Loyola Marymount University at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics
Center Friday, Apr. 25 – Sunday, Apr. 27. The Aggies finished
winning 10 straight and enter the tournament 23-8 overall. (more)

Take Down Pioneers in Overtime
In the rubber match between
the only two Division III programs in Northern California the UC Santa
Cruz Banana Slugs came out ahead of the CSU East Bay Pioneers 10 to
9 in overtime. In an exciting game in which neither team ever led
by more than two goals CSU East Bay game back with two goals in the
final two minutes of regulation to push the game into overtime. With
about thirty seconds left in the second overtime period Senior Chelsea
Meyers stole the ball and started the UCSC counterattack. (more)

Water Polo Finish Weekend 5-1 With Win Over La Verne
In a game that that was
tied for most of the action, the Slugs put away three goals in the
final period to pull away from the La Verne Leopards. Senior Cara
Hipskind led all scorers with two goals. The win caps a five win weekend
with the only loss to the home pool Cal Lutheran Regals, a team the
Slugs have already beaten twice this season. Cruz will now take two
weeks off for finals and will next be in action against East Coast
power Hartwick.

Take Two on Day One of Cal Lutheran Invitational
The UC Santa
Cruz Women's Water Polo team won both of their games on the opening
day of the Cal Lutheran Invitational Tournament. In the tournament's
opening game Cruz started slow only scoring one goal in the first
quarter and then giving up a hail mary shot just as the quarter
expired for a 1-1 tie. In the second quarter the Slugs began to
get into gear and went on a 3-0 scoring run, eventually winning
the game 11-6. (more)

Down Chapman
In a match under the
lights at Chapman's home pool the UC Santa Cruz Women's Water Polo
team took down the Chapman Panthers. Using a relentless counterattack
and full court defensive pressure went out to a first quarter lead
of 4 to 1 and never looked back as they stretched their lead to
a halftime advantage of 7-2. (more)

Women's
Water Polo Opens Their Season At Colorado State
The Slugs
began their season in Fort Collin, Colorado. Their first game against
Colorado State provided the experience that the women needed to get
their suits wet. The day began with the women rising at 5:00 (California
Time) to play in a game at 7:00. The team ended up pulling together
to finish with a score of 9-11 (CSU) up from a 1-6 score at the half
time. The nine goals consisted of Jaisy Hansen 2, Mollie Chodwick
2, Nila Ward 2, Annie Keating 1, Kate Simonis 1, Kelly Samples 1.
This weekend is a great opportunity for the team to discover each
other's playing habits and strengths to continue the season strong.
