UC Santa Cruz Takes on NCAA Division I Arizona State in Exhibition

TEMPE (11-3) – UC Santa Cruz's men's basketball team started their 2016-2017 campaign against NCAA Division I and Pacific 12 Conference opponent Arizona State University in Tempe in an exhibition.

The game marked the return of UC Santa Cruz head men's basketball coach Ron DuBois to Tempe. DuBois was an All-Pacific 10 Conference Academic honorable mention with the Sun Devils and earned Most Inspirational honors from his Sun Devil teammates.

"It was a special trip for me personally and our University got great exposure," DuBois said.
"Positive experience for our team early in the season to compete against a high Major Division 1 program. I'm so excited to coach this group every day."

The game, which was an exhibition for both teams, was the first opportunity for the Banana Slugs to play against another opponent and an opportunity for the team's newcomers to gel with their new teammates. The team was evenly balanced in both scoring and rebounding and played their hosts tough through the entire contest, with an early lead due to excellent shooting.

The Banana Slugs will tip off the regular season on Tuesday November 15th as they take on NAIA opponent UC Merced in Merced. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
