Cilia taken second overall in 2018 Vietnamese Basketball Association draft
Shooting Guard Corey Cilia was chosen yesterday by the Ho Chi Minh City Wings of the Vietnam Basketball Association as the second overall draft pick.

"Corey has embodied all the right things both on off the court here for 4 years," said head coach Ron Dubois. "He has been one of the most humble and hard working athletes I've have ever been around."

The formation of the VBA was announced in 2015-16, and the Wings were runners-up in the first season. The VBA will tip off their preseason in June. The last UCSC player to play abroad was alltime leading scorer John Saintignon, who played in Spain and Mexico between 1988 and 1991.

Cilia was third on the team in scoring this season at 9.9 points a game and hit 48.5% from the three-point line. He is in the top five in career free-throw percentage at UCSC and 10th on the school career three-point chart. He finished his UCSC career with 7 treys in a comeback win over Simpson on Senior Night.

"Corey had an incredible career here at UCSC and led our team to unprecedented levels of success our program has never seen," Dubois continued.  He has hovered around 50% from FG's, 40% from 3FGs and 80% from FT's for his career (50/40/80) , which is extremely rare.  He is extremely excited about this opportunity in the VBA and we are very proud of him."
