Junior Goalkeeper Jared Wheeler was confirmed as the 2006 NCAA Division III Statistical Champion for Goals Against Average by the NCAA Statistics Department earlier this week. The 6'4" Junior from Arcata, CA lead the Nation by conceding 5 goals in 23 games for the Slugs, and posting 20 shutouts on the year, including two Playoff shutouts against Puget Sound, and Trinity.
Joining Wheeler at the top of the statistical list is the entire UC Santa Cruz Men's Soccer Team. In the same announcement, the UC Santa Cruz Men's Soccer Program were named as the Statistical Champions in Goals Against Average and Shutout Percentage. The Slugs conceded 5 goals on the year in addition to posting 20 shutouts in 23 games.
