Slugs Soccer Gets Golden Goal From Freshman Chambers
The UC Santa Cruz Men's Soccer team moved to 9-3-0 on the season with a overtime victory against visiting Simpson University this past Saturday. The Slugs dominated the game, out shooting the visiting Red Hawks 39-1, and producing 18 corner kicks, while the Red Hawks produced none.
Simpson College struck first on a long free kick from well within their own half. With a miss communication in the back, the ball was headed into the Slugs' net by Senior Jeremy Abrams. Continuing to dominate, after the goal, the Slugs could not find the back of the net as they were turned away by Red Hawks goalkeeper Matt Deacon, and the post.
Down 1-0 at half time, the Slugs came out on fire and pulled a goal back in the 60th min through Sophomore, Drew Delis. While continuing to dominate, the Slugs were again turned away again and again by Deacon. The dead lock was not broken until the 102nd min when Freshman, Evan Chambers received a ball 30 yards from goal. Taking a touch into space Chambers, blistered a shot from 25 yard out beating Deacon in the upper corner for the game winning golden goal.
With the win the Slugs improve to 10-3. They travel to CSU East Bay Saturday, October 6th for a very important NCAA Div. III match up.
