Randolph, Fondy Named Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month Award Winners for September

KANSAS CITY, MO -- California State University, East Bay outside hitter Jackie Randolph and University of California, Santa Cruz striker Matt Fondy were named today as the recipients of the Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month awards for September.

Randolph, a senior criminal justice major from Alameda, CA, led the Pioneer volleyball team during the month of September with 205 kills and a .314 hitting percentage. She was second in digs with 197. Randolph recorded seven double-doubles and had over 10 kills in 11 matches. She had 22 kills against Trinity and Puget Sound. Randolph recorded a season-high 22 digs against Trinity and 19 versus Pacific Lutheran and Redlands. Randolph, who has 15 service aces, posted a season-high four aces against Puget Sound.

Fondy, a sophomore business management/economics major from Foster City, CA, led the Slugs in scoring with 7 goals in 9 games. He scored two goals in three of the games. In two of those matches, against Division III rivals Whitworth and Claremont, Fondy scored both of his goals in the second half to tie both games.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 17 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2008-09. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of nine sports this year.

All competing student-athletes from the Association's 17 members were eligible for the award. Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athletes from September. The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association's Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
