    SPOKANE, WA --Cameron Bushey scored on a free kick from just outside the penalty box 15 minutes into the second half and Brian Sherpe made five saves to lift Whitworth to a 1-0 win over visiting UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference men's soccer match on Monday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.

    SANTA CRUZ, CA--Wednesday seemed a breeze for the Slugs on senior day 2010. Facing a decent NAIA team of Holy Names College, the Slugs seemed very intent on prepping for a possible NCAA tournament bid with strength and power. The final shot count was 18-2 in favor of UCSC with Fernando Otero opening up the scoring account for the Slugs with a beautiful chip over the keeper off a slotted ball from teammate Matt Fondy in the 4th minute.

The first match the Slugs had to face was against the talented side of Southwestern University. The Slugs had recently come off a 6 game win streak and were looking to extend the streak in breezy San Antonio.

This game was not just a Division III battle, which is important for the Slugs, but both programs are some of the few “Independent” DIII schools in the nation.
