SANTA CRUZ, CA --Friday afternoon was a beautiful day at UCSC. With the sun shining and the view from East Remote field clear the Slugs hosted NAIA rivals LA Sierra University. Just two weeks ago the Slugs grinded a win out against La Sierra in Riverside CA, and this time the Slugs knew that the Golden Eagles would be no easy day. However, easy could just have been the word used by many when describing the path the Slugs had to walk against La Sierra this day.
With a final score of 3-0 in favor of the Slugs and shots 17-2 for the Slugs, the game seemed a seamless effort. It was La Sierra that had the tough day when goalkeeper Gabriel Escada was awarded a Red Card for taking out Senior Matt Fondy of the Slugs on a breakaway to goal. After Fondy converted his penalty kick in the 76th minute the game became pretty open with more goals by freshman Neil Hetzel, and junior Ben Middlemiss in the 84th and 88th minutes. The Slugs were able to give new players chances on the field and keep spirits alive for their tough match against University of Dallas for tomorrow.
