FOREST GROVE (9-8) - The Banana Slugs started their three-match trip to the state of Oregon as they took on Pacific University in Forest Grove. The Boxers scored an early goal and hung on to win the match 1-0. The loss was the third in a row for the Banana Slugs (0-3).
In their last match, UCSC lost 3-2 to Berry College on Sunday in Santa Cruz while the Boxers won 3-2 over Milwaukee School of Engineering in Santa Cruz on Sunday.
In the first half, the Boxers would get on the scoreboard first as Robert Nurmi took a pass from Shawn Opfer and kicked the ball over Christian Deguzman's head from twenty yards out with 35:00 left to give the Boxers 1-0 lead. Lukas Holocher had the last shot of the half for the Banana Slugs but his shot was blocked. The Boxers led 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the two teams would play a back and forth match. Luke Pfeiffer had the final chance of the match for the Banana Slugs but his shot went wide. The Boxers won the match 1-0.
Cole Fox and Holocher both had two shots to lead the Banana Slugs while for Pacific, Nurmi had a match high three shots. Leyton Thommasen got the win for the Boxers while Deguzman got the loss for the Banana Slugs. The Boxers outshot the Banana Slugs 12-11 and the two teams combined for a total of thirty-eight fouls.
The next match for the Banana Slugs will be Sunday as they take on Willamette University in Salem. Kickoff is set for 7 pm
