Kangaroos Bound Over #30 Banana Slugs

SANTA CRUZ (2-28) – The Banana Slugs played their third match in a four match homestand as they took on NCAA Division I member University of Missouri-Kansas City in Santa Cruz. The Kangaroos won five out of six singles matches as they won 6-1.

In their last match, the Banana Slugs won 7-2 over Chapman University last Saturday in Santa Cruz while the Kangaroos lost 4-3 to Santa Clara University yesterday in Santa Clara.

The Kangaroos won five singles matches while the Banana Slugs won one. In the #2 singles match between Chad Le Duff of UC Santa Cruz and Andrey Smirnov of University of Missouri-Kansas City, Le Duff defeated Smirnov 7-6 (7-1), 6-3. In the #1 singles match between Chadwick Stone of the Banana Slugs and Airam Castellano of the Kangaroos, Castellano defeated Stone 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). In the #4 singles match between Ryan Dugan of UC Santa Cruz and Mike Psarros of University of Missouri-Kanasas City, Psarros defeated Dugan 6-2, 6-4. In the #5 singles match between Derek Levchenko of the Banana Slugs and Vinh Pham of the Kangaroos, Pham defeated Levchenko 6-2, 6-3. In the #6 singles match between James Soper of UC Santa Cruz and Amaury Navette of University of Missouri-Kansas City, Navette defeated Soper 6-0, 6-4. The tightest singles match of the day was the #3 singles match between Adrian Sirovica of the Banana Slugs and Uldis Gaismins of the Kangaroos. Gaismins defeated Sirovica 7-6 (7-5), 7-5

The Kangaroos won two doubles matches while one match as not finished. In the #3 doubles match between Pham and Smirnov of University of Missouri-Kanasas City and Le Duff and Levchenko of UC Santa Cruz, Pham and Smirnov defeated Le Duff and Levchenko 6-1. The #2 doubles match between Dugan and Stone of the Banana Slugs and Gaismins and Navette of the Kangaroos was not finished. The tightest doubles match was the #1 doubles match between of ITA NCAA Division III #8 Richter and Sirovica of UC Santa Cruz and Castellano and Psarros of University of Missouri-Kansas City. Castellano and Psarros defeated Richter and Sirovica 6-2.
