#36 Banana Slugs Outrun Seawolves on Senior Day

SANTA CRUZ (4-3) – The ITA/NCAA Division III #36 ranked Banana Slugs played their final match at home as they took on NCAA Division II opponent Sonoma State University in Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs won five singles matches and won the match 8-1. The Banana Slugs honored seniors Kyle Richter and James Soper as they played their final home match.

In their last match, the Banana Slugs won 6-3 over Colby College on March 23rd in Claremont while the Seawolves lost 9-0 to Holy Names University yesterday in Oakland.

The Banana Slugs won five singles matches while the Seawolves won one. In the #1 singles match between Chad Stone of UC Santa Cruz and Daniel Holz of Sonoma State, Stone defeated Holz 6-4, 6-1. In the #3 singles match between Adrian Sirovica of the Banana Slugs and Logan Liddell of the Seawolves, Sirovica defeated Liddell 6-1, 7-5. In the #5 singles match between Derek Levchenko of UC Santa Cruz and Christian Francisco of Sonoma State, Levchenko defeated Francisco 6-0, 6-0. In the #6 singles match between Alexander Flora of the Banana Slugs and Kevin To of the Seawolves, Flora defeated To 6-3, 6-3. In the #2 singles match between Kyle Richter of UC Santa Cruz and Blaine Mengert of Sonoma State, Mengert defeated Richter 2-6, 6-2 (10-7). The tightest singles match of the day was the #4 singles match between Ryan Dugan of the Banana Slugs and Sullivan Roche of the Seawolves. Dugan defeated Roche 4-6, 6-2 (10-7).

The Banana Slugs won all three doubles matches. In the #1 doubles match between Richter and Sirovica of UC Santa Cruz and Liddell and Mengert of Sonoma State, Richter and Sirovica defeated Liddell and Mengert 8-5. In the #2 doubles match between Dugan and Chad Stone of the Banana Slugs and Francisco and Roche of Sonoma State, Dugan and Stone defeated Francisco and Roche 8-3. The tightest doubles match was the #3 doubles match between Sean Hollister and James Soper of UC Santa Cruz and Holz and To of Sonoma State. Hollister and Soper defeated Holz and To 9-8 (2).
