OJAI (4-24) – The Banana Slugs took part in the 116th Annual Ojai Tennis Tournament as they took on the best players in the NCAA Division III. The Ojai is the largest and oldest tennis tournament in the country.
In the singles competition, in the round of 32, Ryan Dugan defeated Cooper Lacetera of University of Redlands 6-1, 6-1, Adrian Sirovica defeated Charlie Werman of Chapman University 6-4, 7-5 and Sam Malech of Pomona-Pitzer defeated Kyle Richter 6-1, 6-3. In the round of 16, Jonathon Kim of Pomona-Pitzer defeated Dugan 6-2, 6-2 and Lester Yeh of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated Sirovica.
In the doubles competition, in the round of 32, the team of Richter and Sirovica defeated Rohan Shankar/Avinash Vemuri of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 8-5, the team of Dugan and Chadwick Stone defeated Taylor Hunt/Cooper Lacetera of University of Redlands 8-5 and Julian Gordy and Oliver Seifert of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated the team of Alexander Flora and Sean Hollister 8-5. In the round of 16, Richter and Sirovica defeated Alexander Brenner and Patrick Wildman of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 8-4 and Graham Maassen and Spencer Simonides of Pomona-Pitzer defeated Dugan and Stone 8-3. In the round of 8, Skyler Butts and Daniel Morkovine of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated Richter and Sirovica.
The Banana Slugs will now wait until May 9th to see if they make the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship.
