Le Duff makes men's semifinals as UC Santa Cruz concludes play at Ojai

OJAI – Sophomore Chad Le Duff made the semifinals of the Division III division at the 117th Ojai Tennis Tournament.

After beating him in doubles on Friday, Le Duff defeated Pacific's Clark Wininger for the second-consecutive day, this time in singles. After dropping the first set 6-2, Le Duff came back to win the second set 6-4 before taking the match with a 6-0 third set.

In the semifinal against Claremont's Daniel Morkovine, Le Duff started strong but ended up dropping the first set 7-6 before Morkovine took the second set 6-3.

In Division III doubles, both Slug duos fell in the quarterfinals. Le Duff teamed with Sean Hollister in a 8-3 loss to Pomona-Pitzer's Avery Bicks and Marko Mandic. Ryan Dugan and Chad Stone, rated sixth in the West Region, couldn't progress past third-ranked Joey Dulle and Jake Ly of Redlands. In a rematch of their dual matchup last month, Dulle and Ly progressed to the semifinals with an 8-4 win.

"The doubles played tough and took their opponents to a hard-fought suspenseful end," said head coach Mike Napoli.
"LeDuff had chances to capture the set and lost in a tiebreaker. We competed at a very high level and the results showed."
