UCSC swept by Concordia in Irvine

IRVINE- UC Santa Cruz opened their weekend road trip with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19) loss to the Concordia University Irvine Eagles at the CU Arena.

Concordia (4-7) outhit UCSC (6-6) .468 to .127, with a 48 to 20 kill advantage by the end of the match.

The first set called for an close back and forth score as UCSC kept the score tight and led 6-5 on a  kill by Kyle Donohoe. With the set tied 9-9 CUI then reached back with a 7-2 run, breaking the ice before concluding the 1st set by a score of 19-25.

Towards the middle of the second set, the Slugs were still strong willed , with a score of 15-16. CUI however finished with a 9-2 and concluded the set with a 17-25 win.

The third set finished off the match with the Eagles opening a 5-0 lead. Once again the Slugs kept the score to a close chase of 13-18, 14-19, and 15-21. However, Concordia went off to end this game with a 3-0 sweep.

Raymond Cascio served 9 kills and 3 total blocks to pace UCSC. Matthew Nealon lead the team with 19 assists. Teammates Aaron Fox, Daniel Lien and Donohoe each kept the floor clean with 3 digs each.

UCSC next travels to UC San Diego on Saturday February 2, 7pm and will be broadcasted live on ESPN3.
