Banana Slugs Take Part in CSU East Bay Christmas Invitational

SANTA ROSA (12-19) – UC Santa Cruz took part in the 2015 CSU East Bay Christmas Invitational. The event took place at Quinn Aquatic Center in Santa Rosa. Their opponents included schools from all over the western United States that branched all divisions of intercollegiate athletics.

In the men's competition, the Banana Slugs had competitors finish in the top ten in all nineteen events that took place and in eleven of those events, the Banana Slugs had competitors finish in the top five. Individually, Ivan Garin had the best finish of the day for the Banana Slugs contingent as he finished second in the 100 yard butterfly.

The women's team had participants finish in the top ten in twelve of the nineteen events that took place. Individually, the relay teams had the best finishes for the Banana Slugs as they finished sixth in both the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relays.

In the men's team competition, UC Santa Cruz finished second with 830 points. California Baptist University won the men's team competition with 1,306 points. In the women's team competition, UC Santa Cruz finished fourth with 363 points. California Baptist also won the women's team competition with 1,187 points.

The Banana Slugs will have their next trip into the pool on January 1st and 2nd as they take part in the Chris Knorr Invitational in Thousand Oaks at California Lutheran University.
