THOUSAND OAKS (1-2) – UC Santa Cruz took part in the 2015 Chris Knorr Invitational. The event took place at California Lutheran University. Their opponents included the host Regals and Pacific Lutheran University.
For the second consecutive competition, the Banana Slugs had competitors finish in the top ten in every single event that took place and they had competitors finish in the top five in all sixteen events that they participated in. Individually, Ivan Garin won two races – the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly. Four racers - Kendall Pawlowski (500 yard freestyle), Daniel Rico (200 yard breaststroke), Kyle Rovira (200 yard IM) and Wesley Whittlesey (200 yard backstroke) – won one race apiece.
The women's team had participants finish in the top ten in all sixteen events that took place. Individually, the relay teams had the best finishes for the Banana Slugs as they finished sixth in both the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relays. Individually, five individuals – Katherine Arnold (200 yard breaststroke), Kiara Calayag (200 yard backstroke), Amanda Gritsfeld (1 meter diving), Megan Roby (1650 yard freestyle) and Alyssa San Lucas (500 yard freestyle) – won one event apiece. The Banana Slugs, as a team, won the 400 yard medley relays.
In the men's team competition, UC Santa Cruz won with 843.5 points. In the women's team competition, UC Santa Cruz won with 742 points.
The next trip for the Banana Slugs will be January 16th as they take on Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in San Luis Obispo.
