SANTA CRUZ (12-4) – UC Santa Cruz won ten events in their weekend tri-meet as they finished the 2016 season at the UCSC Aquatics Center. Their opponents were NCAA Division I member San Jose State University and NCAA Division III member California Lutheran University.
In the men's competition, the Banana Slugs had competitors finish in the top five in all thirteen events that took place. Individually, Tyler Andree (1,650-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley) and Eli Cirino (one meter and three-meter diving) won two events apiece. Casey Colella (100-yard breaststroke), Ivan Garin (50-yard freestyle), John Lupu (100-yard butterfly) and Wesley Whittlesey (100 yard backstroke) won one event apiece. As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was in 200-yard medley relay where they finished second.
The women's team had participants finish in the top ten in twelve of the thirteen events that took place and in eight of those events, they had participants finish in the top five. Individually, Krystal Feri had the best finish for the Banana Slugs as she won the 100-yard breaststroke. As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was in the 800-yard freestyle relay as they won the event.
The next time the Banana Slugs will hit the pool will be January 6th-7th as they participate in the Chris Knorr Invitational at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.
