SAAC teams up with SPIN for a sports day on UCSC campus
SANTA CRUZ, CA - - The Student Athlete Advisory Committee teamed up with SPIN to put on the 1st annual sports day on the campus of UC Santa Cruz from 10:30am – 1:30pm this past Saturday. SPIN (Special Parents Information Network) is a non-profit parent-to-parent support and information network serving parents, guardians and families in Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties who have children with special needs.
SAAC members, the Aptos High School Girls Varsity Soccer team, and UCSC Student-Athletes from the soccer, volleyball, and tennis teams spent the day with the SPIN participants. Each SPIN child was matched up with a few volunteers who became their buddies for the day. The event started out with a group stretch. Then the groups divided up and had a chance to play basketball, soccer, tennis and volleyball with all of the volunteers. Snacks were provided in between the events and Woodstocks Pizza donated pizzas for a party at the end of the day.
Bobby Petro, SAAC Community Service Director, stated "Everyone was a great help and brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm. The parents of the disabled children were very grateful. Overall, it was a good day!"
