UCSC Women's Basketball Still Rollin' Strong
With no homes games, and two LA trips in two weeks, the UCSC Women's Basketball team has managed to not be affected. The Slugs are off to their best start since head coach Nikki Turner took over the program four years ago. For their third straight victory, they defeated Claremont Mudd Scripps 67-55, the first time in Turner's four years.
Leading the way for the Slugs once again was another impressive night by junior guard Kayleigh Calandri who finished the night with 27 points, 17 of those coming in the first half. Another great performance came from junior forward Melissa Junge who gained her first double-double on the season finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Also finishing with 13 points was senior point guard Talia Joyce who also dished out 7 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds.
The Slugs finished the week 3-0, bringing their overall record to 4-1. They are currently shooting the ball extremely well, shooting 45% for the week, while also holding their opponents to an average of 61 points. It was also the first time that the Slugs have come back from a two game road trip 2-0. Next the Slugs will travel to Rocklin, CA to face William Jessup University. This has been a season of firsts for the Slugs. Next they hope to capture their fourth straight victory which will be yet again, another first.
