CLAREMONT, CA -- The Slugs traveled to Claremont California on their first road trip of the season to play in the David Wells Classic. UC Santa Cruz squared off against the Pomona Pitzer Sagehens and the Claremont Mudd Scripts Athenas. The Slugs dominated the Sagehens in game 1 as the bench poured in 52 points in a 90-48 victory.
The Slugs controlled the game against the Sagehens from start to finish. A three pointer by Taylor Willis and jumpers by Leah Parrish and Sarah Crane helped the Slugs jump to a quick 16-7 lead. UCSC expanded the lead to 29-14. Sarah Mackey controlled the paint in the first half scoring 15 points and blocking 3 shots. This game, however, belonged to the bench. Coach Kent substituted early and often. Cristina Rimicci (11 points), Jasmin Dimson (11 points), Tyler Stewart (10 points) and Trina Torres (9 points) rained numerous three point shots on Pomona Pitzer. Stewart added a beautiful jumper off a pump fake as the Slugs rolled to a 68-34 second half lead. Nine different Slugs made three point shots and long bombs from Ashley Holmes and Melody Baroni put the finishing touches on a 90-48 victory.
