Women's Basketball runs out of gas in 65-51 loss at George Fox

NEWBERG, OR. - George Fox outscored visiting UC Santa Cruz 21-9 in the final quarter in a 65-51 win Saturday night.

UCSC falls to 2-5 with their third-straight loss while the Bruins improved to 5-2.

The Banana Slugs opened the game hot with starting guards Kim Tom, Katie Young and CJ Catina each hitting a three-pointer to help the visitors race to an early 11-2 lead in the first quarter. UCSC was up by 9 at the end of the first, and another three-pointer gave the Slugs their biggest lead at 24-12.

The Slugs were up 32-25 at halftime but George Fox used a 13-5 run the final 6:15 of the third to take the lead for good at 44-42 entering the final quarter.

The Bruins slowly pulled away as UCSC hit only 3-11 field goals in the last ten minutes.

UCSC shot 31.4% (16-51) for the field in the game and 29.4% (5-17) on three-pointers, but missed their last five shots from long-range during the Bruin comeback. George Fox forced 28 UCSC turnovers which they turned into 26 points.

Tom led UCSC with 14 points including going 6-6 from the line. Young added 11 point. Kaitlin Stephenson had team-highs of 12 rebounds 3 assists and 7 steals.

UCSC continues the Oregon roadtrip on Sunday against Linfield.
