Women's Basketball to host Wartburg, Catholic and Cal Lutheran in 7th annual December Classic

UC Santa Cruz will put the sneakers back on after Finals when they host the Seventh annual December Classic. The Banana Slugs open against ranked Wartburg on Tuesday evening. Cal Lutheran and Catholic complete the field. All four games will be streamed live on UCSC Athletics' Facebook and Youtube pages.

About Wartburg: The Knights are 7-0 on the year and ranked 4th nationally by D3hoops.com. They went 25-3 last year and made it to the NCAA tournament as champions of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They are led by seniors Miranda Murphy (12.4 points/game, 4.6 rebounds) and Katie Sommer (11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists). 

Wartburg has two sets of sisters on the team- Katie and her twin Kristie, and Miranda, her twin Megan, and their freshman sister Riley.

About Catholic: The Cardinals are 6-1 on the season. Senior Briana Bull leads them with 11 points, 3.4 steala and  5.6 rebounds a game.  Samantha Cowan averages 9 points and Megan Stafford averages 7.0 rebounds. Catholic made it to the NCAA first round last year out of the Landmark Conference with a 23-5 record, their fourth NCAA trip in six years.

The Cardinals'  Athletic Director is former UCSC soccer player and coach Sean Sullivan.

About Cal Lutheran:  The Regals are 5-2 on the year and are 2-0 in the SCIAC. Senior Kayla Watterson averages team-highs of 10 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. Kiana Grey averages 9.1 points and 8.9 rebounds.
