PACIFIC GROVE, CA -- UC Santa Cruz competed in their final regular season event of the season as they hosted the UCSC Invitational. The event took place at Pacific Grove Golf Links in Pacific Grove, California. The Banana Slugs' competition included five NCAA Division III members and one NAIA member.
In the first round, Angela McElroy led the Banana Slugs contingent with an 89 (+17), which tied her along with Taylor Anthony of Berry University and Jasmin Rodriguez of Biola University. Ravipa Losakul shot a 92 (+20). Olivia Bean shot a 93 (+21) which tied her with Brooke Ponder and Kara Doege of Hardin-Simmons University. Kendra Morris shot a 96 (+24). Rachel Pae and Victoria Ly both shot a 99 (+27). Victoria Saucedo shot a 105 (+33). Sydney Maluenda of George Fox University led the individual competition after one round and George Fox led the team competition after one round.
In the second round, Bean shot an 89 (+17) for a total tournament score of 182 (+38) finishing her in 26th place. McElroy finished tied for 27th, along with Ponder, after shooting a second round 94 (+22) for a total score of 183 (+39). Losakul shot a second round 92 (+20) for a total score of 184 (+40) which placed her in 29th place. Morris in 34th place after shooting a second round 97 (+25) for a total score of 193 (+49). Pae and Ly finished tied for 35th with both shooting a 96 (+24) for a total score of 195 (+51). Saucedo shot a second round 108 (+36) for a total score of 213 (+69) which tied her for 38th place along with Claire Ramaley of Pacific University. Maluenda won the individual competition while George Fox won the team competition. UC Santa Cruz finished sixth in the team competition.
The Banana Slugs will now wait and see if they selected for the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. The selections will take place in May.
