UC Santa Cruz started their 2016 season as they took part in the Culturame Classic. The event took place at The Reserve Vineyard and Golf Club in Aloha, Oregon. The Banana Slugs' competition featured seven NCAA Division III schools and one NCAA Division II school.
In the first round, Ravipa Losakul shot a 77 (+4) which tied her with Kristin Elich of George Fox University and Lynsie Furuva of Concordia University (OR). Rachel Pae shot a 91 (+18) which tied her along with Jane Almeida of Lewis and Clark College and Kendall Dunovant of Whitman College. Olivia Bean and Victoria Ly each shot a 95 (+23) which tied them along with Halle Creswick of Concordia and Madeline Rice of Linfield College. Angela McElroy rounded the Banana Slugs' contingent with a 98 (+25) which tied her with Laura Waller of Linfield. Phoebe Nguyen of Whitman led the individual competition. In the team competition, George Fox led while UC Santa Cruz was in seventh.
In the second round, Losakul shot an 88 (+15) for a total tournament score of 165 (+19), which finished her tied for nineteenth along with McKenna Pautsch of University of Redlands. Ly had the best second round score for the Banana Slugs shooting an 86 (+13). She finished with a 181 +35) overall and finished in thirty seventh place. Pae shot a 93 (+20) for a total score of 184 (+38) which placed her in thirty ninth place tied with Tiana Yamaoka of Linfield College. Bean shot a 95 (+22) for a total score of 190 (+44) which placed her in forty fourth place along with Rice. McElroy also shot a 95 (+22) for a total of 193 (+47) which placed her in forty fifth place. Nguyen won the individual competition. George Fox won the team competition while UC Santa Cruz finished in eighth place.
The Banana Slugs will two weeks before their next event as they will take part in the Sonoma State Fall Invitational on October 18th-19th. The event will take place in Rohnert Park at Foxtrail Golf Club.
