UC Santa Cruz Finishes Ninth at California State Intercollegiate

UC Santa Cruz traveled to Southern California to take part in the California State Intercollegiate. The Banana Slugs' competition featured seven NCAA Division III schools and two NAIA schools.

In the first round, Tiffany Guzman led the Banana Slugs with an 85 (+13). Olivia Bean shot an 86 (+14) which tied her along with Alison Nieh and Crimi-DeMichele Watson of Whittier College. Angela McElroy shot an opening round 91 (+19). Maia Dupuis shot a 99 (+27). Julia Martin shot a 103 (+31). Sean Hong rounded out the Banana Slugs' contingent with a 110 (+38) which tied her along with Jamera Bradley of Occidental College.

In the second round, Bean shot an 84 (+12) for a total round of 170 (+26) which tied her for 31st along with Calli Schiess of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (AZ). Martin shot 102 (+30) for a total score of 205 (+61) which placed her in 43rd. Dupuis shot 117 (+45) for a total score of 216 (+72) which gave a 45th place finish. Hong shot a 109 (+37) for a total of 219 (+75) which tied her for 46th along with Bradley. Tiffany Guzman finished 53rd after withdrawing before the second round.

Kristin Elich of George Fox University won the individual competition. George Fox University won the team competition while UC Santa Cruz finished ninth in the team competition.

The Banana Slugs' next tournament will be October 8th-9th at the CMS Invitational at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.
