PACIFIC GROVE - UCSC's women's golf team took 17 strokes off their first round score to wrap up their Spring Invite in 9th place against a loaded field.
UCSC faced five Division III teams, one Division II and two NAIA squads Easter weekend. It was the fifth straight time the UCSC Invite was held at the Pacific Grove Golf Links.
Jessica Salazar and Kylie Edwards made the biggest climb, taking ten and eight strokes respectively off their Saturday round. Edwards shot a 182 overall, placing 46th, 32 strokes off the leader. Sarah Shi, UCSC's top golfer from the first round, finished 49th with a 42-over-par 186.
"Kylie is a first year with not much tournament experience prior to college. Her stroke average has improved dramatically this year through a lot of hard work," said head coach Paulette Pera. "She really wants it. I see great scores in her future."
Kaylie Hunn of George Fox won medalist honors with a six-over-par 150. George Fox, last year's National Runners-Up, won the team title by ten strokes over Washington and Lee. It was the fourth Spring Invite title for the Bruins in the past five years.
UCSC has their final meet in three weeks at the American Southwest Conference championships in Texas.
