Lim named AD3I defender of the year;Scheese named coach of the year

OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS - Claire Lim was named Association of Div. Three Independents Defender of the Year for 2016, in a vote by the league's coaches.

The Junior from Piedmont played in all 18 games with 17 starts as an anchor on the backline. She led the Banana Slugs in minutes played, ending the season with six goals and 14 points.
In addition to Lim, forward Megan Carey, midfielders Rikki Porter and Alex Arce, and defender Katie Schinnerer were voted to the first team.
Carey led the team with eight goals scored,while Arce led the squad with four assists. Schinnerer and Porter started every game for the Banana Slugs this season.
Head coach Emily Scheese was named Coach of the Year for leading the Slugs to the NCAA Tournament despite few home games and the toughest schedule amongst all independents.
Goalkeeper Athena Del Rosario was named to the All-Independents Second Team, as was forward Cayce Shaw. Midfielder Kacie Ring was named to the Third Team.
