PORTLAND (9-8) – The Banana Slugs finished their five-match road trip as they took on Lewis and Clark College in Portland. The Pioneers scored a goal in the first half and held on to top the Banana Slugs 1-0.
The first half was played, for the majority, in the Pioneers' offensive zone. With 24:05 left in the first half, Caroline Hennes scored off a corner kick to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. The final chance for the Banana Slugs to score in the half was a shot by Sierra Reith that went just high.
In the second half, the match was played at a back and forth pace. The Pioneers had a two shot advantage in the half at 5-3. The final chance for the Banana Slugs to score in the match was on a Cayce Shaw shot but the shot was high.
The Pioneers outshot the Banana Slugs 12-5 while the Banana Slugs had nine fewer fouls (13-4) than did the Pioneers. Five players had one shot each for the Banana Slugs while for Lewis and Clark, Anna Saucedo had a match high three shots.
The Banana Slugs will next start a two-match homestand on Wednesday September 12 as they take on NCAA Division II Dominican University (CA) at Lower East Field at 4 pm.
