In the 95th minute, Michele Stathatos scored the golden goal off of an assist from Chay Thomas, and the UCSC Women’s Soccer Team continues their incredible season. UCSC defeated the NCAA West Regional host and #10 ranked team in the nation California Lutheran University. The Slugs advance to play Concordia- Moorehead in the 2nd round Sunday night at 5pm at Rolland Stadium at California Lutheran University.

November 7, 2011 was a day of anticipation and excitement for the UCSC Women’s Soccer Team and in the Athletic Office in general as they found out that their squad is advancing to the NCAA playoffs since their hiatus last season. After what was a disappointing season in 2010, going 1-13-2 after a history of making it to the playoffs every year since 2006, this year it was time to dust off the shock and embrace the goal that the 2011 squad achieved.

Tropical Storm Lee threatened to open up as well. The weather did little to slow down the Slugs as they proved they could put the tough season of 2010 behind them.

SANTA CRUZ, CA.---Stormy skies, fog and rainy conditions descended upon the Lower East Field this past Sunday for the second game of the weekend as the Banana Slugs took on the visiting Cal State San Marcos squad up from San Diego County. The slippery conditions only promoted a more physical game than the Slugs had seen all year with several yellow cards being issued to CSUSM by the end of the match, one of which led to a PK for the Slugs which #9 Roxanne Beltran gracefully converted in the second half.

LOS ANGELES, CA.---The UC Santa Cruz Women’s soccer team took the second of three trips to the greater Los Angeles area this weekend to battle two opponents in the SCIAC conference. The battle lasted an entire 110 minutes through two overtime periods with no clear-cut contest winner. The Slugs made their way to southern California with several newly travelling freshman players who saw their first time this season on the pitch in L.A.

The 2006 UCSC Women’s Soccer Season opens on the road this weekend. The Lady Slugs are in Los Angeles for three games over the Labor Day Weekend. In the first the game, they defeated Concordia College of Moorhead, MN 1-0. Second year forward Alec Drew scored the Lady Slugs first goal of the season off a turnover early in the second half.

Lady Slugs Dig Deep to Overpower Chapman 3-1 on Senior Day
Ranked 1st in the West, the UC Santa Cruz Lady Slugs drew a large supportive crowd for one of their toughest challenges of the season versus Chapman University. The Slugs and Panthers battled it out with over 30 fouls called in the match, but it was UCSC who overpowered Chapman to improve to an overall record of 14-0-3.

UCSC Women's Soccer Comes Out on Top
It was an extremely physical battle between the UC Santa Cruz (12-0-3) and Menlo College (8-5-1) Women’s soccer teams today. The forward line, consisting of Alec Drew, Danielle Mullen, and Annick Lamb, affectively applied high pressure to the Menlo defense in the first half. Midfielder Karli Cowman was able to capitilize on a turnover.

UC Santa Cruz records 11th Shut Out of the Season with a 3-0 victory over Holy Names. Ranked 1st in the West and 8th in the Nation, Division III UC Santa Cruz took on NAIA opponent Holy Names University. Both teams played high pressure defense and looked to combine through the middle. However, it was the Lady Slugs that were able to take advantage of the wind in their favor in the second half.

SAN RAFAEL, CA -- The Slugs pulled out a 2-1 overtime victory over Dominican University to get their third win of the season. The Slugs dominated on offense, and outshot the Penguins 27-4, but it was Domincan that got the first goal of the game in the 46 minute.

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- In a great game versus Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, a winner wouldn't be decided until the last 8 minutes of the game. UCSC controlled the ball and the tempo for a majority of the game, but when Pac Lu finally got an opportunity late in the game, Amanda Gabler was able to convert a breakaway goal in the 82nd minute.
