UC Santa Cruz women's team closed their home schedule with a tough 6-3 defeat to Stanislaus State.

After Stanislaus swept the doubles matches the Banana Slugs split the singles matches with Isabelle BrownVera Smekalina and Savannah Hammick winning at 2,3 and 6 singles.

"I'm really happy to finally be able to play singles and to put my all on the court and really enjoy competing," said Smekalina. "The team has grown so much over the past couple of weeks and this match was a perfect example of how much stronger we are and the amazing things coming our way"

Lone senior Zoë Brook was honored in a pregame ceremony before her final home match.

"We really dominated the net well and executed some great poaches. It was a great showing for our last home game of the season and the Slugs have left a great fragrance on our home courts, until next time we battle together in Fall 2018,"  said coach Amy Jensen.

The Slugs finish their regular season with two more Division II opponents, starting Saturday at Academy of Art in San Francisco.
