UC Santa Cruz Takes Part in Johnny Mathis Invitational

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- UC Santa Cruz went to San Francisco for their second track and field competition of the season as they took part in the Johnny Mathis Invitational. The event was hosted by San Francisco State and took place at Cox Stadium. The Banana Slugs' competition included schools from NCAA Divisions I and II, several junior colleges and racing clubs. 

In the women's 1,500 meter run, Jamie West finished 20th with a time of 4:51.55 to lead the Banana Slugs contingent. The 20th place was the best individual finish of the day. Caitlin Devlin finished 22nd with a 4:53.72 time. Lizzie Meredith finished 37th with a time of 5:01.33. Frankie Loayza finished with a time of 5:01.51 and finished in 38th place. Autumn Burton finished in 46th with a time of 5:14.38. In the women's 800 meter run, Meredith finished 28th with a 2:27.97 time. Burton finished 35th with a time of 2:30.93. Evelyn Muros finished 36th with a time of 2:32.96. Shelby Dunn finished 41st with a time of 2:35.61.  In the women's 5,000 meter run, Jamie West finished in 22nd place with a time of 18:37.55 and Loayza finished in 26th place with a time of 18:46.23. 

The Banana Slugs' next competition is on April 3rd as they take part in the San Francisco Distance Carnival in San Francisco.
