UC Santa Cruz Participates in San Francisco Distance Carnival

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – UC Santa Cruz went to San Francisco for the second consecutive event as they took part in the San Francisco Distance Carnival. The event was hosted by San Francisco State and took place at Cox Stadium. The Banana Slugs' competition included schools from all levels of the NCAA and NAIA, junior colleges and racing clubs. 

In the women's competition, Lizzie Meredith finished 63rd in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:50.08. The 63rd place finish was the best individual finish of the day for the Banana Slugs' contingent. Frankie Loayza finished 87th with a time of 4:58.75. Autumn Burton finished 96th with a 5:03.09 time. In the 800 meter run, Meredith finished 73rd with a time of 2:26.46, Burton finished 80th with a 2:30.20 time and Evelyn Muros finished 87th with a time of 2:34. In the 5,000 meter run, Jamie West finished 73rd with a time of 18:08.76 and Caitlin Devlin finished 76th with an 18:15.19 time. 

In the men's competition, Takehiro Yamaya finished 94th with a time of 4:09.88 in the 1,500 meter run. In the 800 meter run, Yamaya finished 77th with a time of 2:02.78. In the 5,000 meter run, Theron Carmichael finished in 136th place with a time of 15:35.32. 

The Banana Slugs' next event is on April 18th as they take part in the East Bay Legacy in Hayward.
