IRVINE, CA -- UC Santa Cruz traveled south to Irvine to take part in the 21st Annual Steve Scott Invitational presented by Adidas. The event was hosted by UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium. The Banana Slugs' competition featured competition not only from every single collegiate level in the United States, but from Canada and New Zealand.
In the women's competition, in the 800 meter run, Lizzie Meredith led the Banana Slugs' contingent with a 2:23.70 time which placed her in 26th place. Autumn Burton finished in 28th place with a time of 2:27.34. In the 1,500 meter run, Meredith finished 29th with a time of 4:49.28 while Burton finished 44th with a time of 4:57.11. Caitlin Devlin had the best individual finish of the day for the Banana Slugs as she finished 10th, in the 5,000 meter run, with a time of 17:45.98.
In the men's competition, Takehiro Yamaya finished the 800 meter run in 38th place with a time of 2:02.16. In the 1,500 meter run, Yamaya finished in 54th place with a time of 4:11.49. In the 5,000 meter run, Theron Carmichael finished with a 15:27.41 time which placed him in 32nd.
The Banana Slugs' next event is on May 9th as they take part in the West Coast Last Chance Meet in San Francisco.
