CLOVIS, Calif. — The UC Santa Cruz track & field team continued the momentum over recent weeks with a strong meet at the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday. The field was full of Division I opponents including Fresno State, Oregon State, Nevada, UNLV, CSUN, Pacific, San Jose State and CSU Bakersfield.
The Slugs excelled in the middle distances throughout the meet. On the men's side, sophomore Takehiro Yamaya continued to impress in the 800 finishing 5th with a time of 1:58.88. He also ran a strong 1500 in 4:05.70 which was good enough for 13th.
On the women's side, Sydney Gutierrez led the Slugs in the 1500 to a 6th place finish with a time of 4:52.31. Lizzie Meredith and Autumn Burton finished on her heels in 7th and 8th posting times of 4:59.42 and 5:00.31.
Freshman Natalie Marquardt ran the 800 for the Slugs in 2:23.81 and finished 11th to go with her 10th place finish in the pole vault with a height of 2.80 meters, a personal best and new school record.
The Slugs will be back on the track for the Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine on April 29 and 30th.
