NEW ORLEANS, La – Scholar Team of the Year and All-Academic honors for the 2015-2016 NCAA Division III Track & Field seasons were announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Teams were honored for having at least a 3.10 cumulative team GPA for the 2015-2016 academic year. In total, there were 112 men's teams and 175 women's teams honored by the Association for success in the classroom and in competition.
Fontbonne's women had the best GPA out of every DIII team with a 3.84. The UCSC women had a cumulative GPA of 3.30, their second consecutive All-Academic Team Award.
The top men's team was Waynesburg University with a GPA of 3.70. The UCSC men, already honored for UCSC's Highest Male Team GPA Award, had a team GPA of 3.35.
"I'm very proud of the achievements from both the men's and women's programs," said head coach Jamey Harris. "They continue to demonstrate their strong commitment to academics while competing at the highest of levels. I look forward to seeing their continued success both on and off the track."
The Slugs will look to continue their academic excellence as the program begins an expansion from what has traditionally been a distance running only team to a full program competing in all 21 events.
