Done Deal: Women's Volleyball fights past Menlo; clinches first Postseason berth in school history

SANTA CRUZ-- The Women's Volleyball team earned its first postseason berth in school history on Friday, defeating Menlo College in four grueling games, 30-26, 33-31, 33-35 and 30-24.

The win, combined with Bethany College's loss to the College of Notre Dame the same night, the Slugs clinch one of the two postseason berths in the Southern region of the NAIA Cal Pac conference. The team may also have won consideration for a highly-coveted NCAA berth.

Senior Outside Hitter Leigh O'Neill, the team's only senior, was honored before the match in a Senior's Night ceremony. O'Neill, the teams leader in kills, then took the court, playing perhaps the best match of her career. She led the team with 20 kills, 3 service aces and an outstanding .447 hitting percentage.

Junior Setter Lily Hallock had 45 assists on the night and Sophomore Middle Jennifer Lewis had 12 kills in the win.

Women's Volleyball begins its run in the Cal Pac playoffs Tuesday night in San Rafael, as they face top seeded Dominican College. UCSC lost the previous meeting between the two conference foes, 1-3 result at Dominican on October 6.

The winner of the rematch will go on to the Cal Pac Finals. Game time is at 7:30 pm.
