Women's Volleyball takes back-to-back losses against Division II Southern Oregon in season opener
SANTA CRUZ -- The Women's Volleyball team played well for stretches in its two matches against Division II Southern Oregon on Saturday and Sunday, but ultimately came up short both times, losing on Saturday night, 3-0 (30-17, 30-21, 30-18) and Sunday afternoon, 3-1 (30-24, 27-30, 30-26, 30-28).
Sophomore Outside Hitter Amy Strang played well for the Slugs, amassing 21 kills in seven games. Sophomore Middle-blocker April Vogt came back from a tough first match to hit .219 with 12 kills in the second. Vogt also had 4 total blocks on Sunday, to give her a two match total of 6.
Senior Setter Lilly Hallock is averaging 9.57 assists/game, and also leads the team in total service aces, with 5.
The team showed considerable improvement on defense from the first to the second matches. Southern Oregon hit for .317 against the Slugs on Saturday, but that fell to .177 in Sunday's match.
The Women's Volleyball team's record now stands at 0-2. They play their next match next weekend at the Whittier Classic Invitational.
