UCSC Defeated by Menlo in 3

ATHERTON, CA -- The Slugs lost their 9th game this season to the Menlo College Oaks, 21-30, 26-30, 23-30. All three games were close in the beginning, but Menlo took advantage of UCSC mistakes to pull away and win. UCSC had twice as many service and reception errors as Menlo, finishing with 11 and 10 respectively.

This was the first game for sophomore setter Kate Wellmon; playing in 2 games she tallied 10 assists and 4 digs. Briana Williford led the team with 7 kills and 4 digs, while Brina Mocsny added 5 kills with no errors on 13 attempts, giving her the highest hitting percentage on the team with .385. On defense, Senior Captain Kristin Onorato led the team in digs (13), while Lisa Kauchak and Brina Mocsny each had 3 blocks.

The Slugs will finally return to their home court this Friday at 7pm to take on fellow DIII Independent Chapman University. It will be simulcast live on KZSC 88.1 FM and on kzsc-org.ucsc.edu.
