2004-05 Season Review
The women's volleyball team had a successful season with Coach Teitelbaum at the helm for her first year. The slugs more than doubled their wins from last season and ended on a great note beating three of their last four opponents.
Leading the team was Senior Middle Blocker, Lisa Kauchak who had a team high overall hitting percentage of 0.215 and had a career high hitting percentage against Occidental College with a 0.692 average! Lisa also led the team in blocks with 59 on the season. Congratulations to Lisa for receiving All-Tournament Awards at the Pacific Coast Classic and the LaVerne Tournament!!
Amy Strang, Senior Co-Captain and Outside Hitter racked up the most kills in a game vs. Vassar with 25 and also tallied the most kills and attempts for the season with 322 kills on 1019 attempts.
Senior Co-Captain Kristin Onorato led the team in overall aces with her wicked jumpserve finding the floor 32 times on the season, and a team high 7 aces against Rutgers. Kristin also led the team with the most digs in a match and added her name to the AVCA 30 Dig Club list against Bethany College during her senior night match.
Another season record-holder was Sophomore Libero, Lauren Chiodini who led the team in digs with 429 on the season. Sophomore Setter, Jenna Koch had a great season tallying 910 assists for the season with a game high of 68 versus Menlo in a 5 game marathon match. Junior Opposite Briana Williford had a great season earning All-Tournament Team at the NYU Invitational. Bri played in 101 games this season racking up a match-high 18 kills on 59 attempts against Lakeland University and hit 0.667 against Occidental College. Junior Middle Blocker, Brina Mocsny had a great season as well with a game high 19 kills on 27 attempts hitting 0.432 against Menlo College. Had Brina not fractured her thumb in two places and missed one third of the season, there is no question that she would have broken some team records.
Filling in for Brina was Sophomore Middle Blocker Kim Bernet who had a game high of 10 kills on 17 attempts versus CSU Monterey Bay.
Other noteworthy players include Junior Defensive Specialist, Jenessa Hall who racked up 17 assists, 23 service aces and 118 digs for the season. Martina Kroll also made 12 game appearances having a game high 6 kills and 9 digs. Sophomore Setter Kate Wellmon tallied 73 assists, 16 digs and 4 blocks for the season. Gillian McGraw who did not finish the season due to a back injury, had a great match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps talling 6 kills on 20 attempts, hitting 0.200 for the match Lone Freshman Carmen Aguilar-Wedge had a strong showing against Colorado College putting the ball away 3 times on 4 attempts hitting an amazing 0.750.
Look for the Women's Volleyball team to continue their success next season with 11 returners including Senior Opposite Briana Williford, Senior Middle Blocker, Brina Mocsny and Senior Setter/Defensive Specialist Jenessa Hall and a strong recruiting class for 2005.
