Slugs Lose to #4 Ranked Hayward

HAYWARD, CA -- The Slugs faced CSU Hayward on Friday night, a fellow DIII Independent, Hayward is currently ranked No. 4 in the country, and defeated the Slugs in 3 games, 30-23, 30-24, and 30-26.

This was the first game for the Slugs to test out their new offense and lineup Head coach Selene Tietlebaum introduced last week. Junior Briana Wiliford lead the team with 13 kills, hitting .346 overall and .416 in game 3. While sophomore setter Jenna Koch stood out in game two where she tallied up 19 assists and 4 aces. Overall it was a well played game considering the new offensive strategy and the top ranked competition. With a full week of practice ahead of them look for the Slugs to improve to be prepared for a good game against Menlo College next Tuesday, October 5th.

The Slugs will have another chance to face CSU Hayward, as the two teams meet here at UCSC on Friday October 8th, 7pm. Come out and support your slugs at theWest Fieldhouse or listen live on KZSC.
