Slugs Snap Losing Streak in Colorado

SANTA CRUZ, CA --It was another tough weekend for UCSC Women's Volleyball facing #14 ranked Colorado College on their home court in Colorado Springs. The Tigers beat the Slugs in 3 (20-25, 21-25, 23-25). Leading both teams in kills for the match was Senior Opposite Jen Meyers who had 17 kills hitting .400 with 2 assists, 2 blocks and 1 dig. Leading in digs for both teams was Senior Libero Dana Johnson who had 16 digs for the match.

Up next, the Slugs faced DIII Independent Chapman University but came up two points short in the first two games, losing the match in 3 (23-25, 26-28, 16-25). Senior Opposite Jen Meyers led the team with 13 kills, 5 digs and 4 blocks. Junior Middle Blocker Lauren Nixon had a solid match with hitting .500 with 4 kills and 6 blocks and Freshman Middle Blocker Ginger Berryman had 6 blocks, 4 digs, 2 aces and 2 kills for the match.

UCSC and Millikin met twice in back-to-back matches on Saturday, October 24th. In the first match, Millikin beat UCSC in 5 (19-25, 25-22, 25-16, 19-25, 7-15). Senior Outside Hitter Katie English led with 11 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Middle Ginger Berryman had 8 kills, 5 digs, 4 blocks and 1 ace for the match. Senior Libero Dana Johnson led the defense with 26 digs followed by Sophie Manoukian who had 19 digs and 1 ace.

In the second matchup between The Slugs and Big Blue, it was UCSC that came out on top in 4 games (22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-19). Senior Libero Dana Johnson had 6 aces, 20 digs and 2 kills for the match. Leading in kills was Senior Opposite Jen Meyers with 18 kills, 6 assists and 3 blocks. Also putting up double digit kills was Freshman Outside Hitter Chanel Filteau who had 13 kills, 4 digs and 1 block and Freshman Middle Blocker Ginger Berryman who had 12 kills, 2 digs, 1 ace and 1 block for the match. The win over Millikin ended the Slugs seven match losing streak improving their record to 19-10 on the season.

UCSC has two remaining matches for the season. The first at Dominican University on Tuesday, November 3rd and their last home game and Senior Night on Friday, November 6th at 7pm.
