SANTA CRUZ (9-25) – Playing each other for the second time in as many matches, the Banana Slugs took on UC Merced with this match taking place at West Field House. The only difference was the venue; however, as the Banana Slugs swept the Golden Bobcats 3-0.
In their last match, the Banana Slugs swept the Golden Bobcats 3-0 on Saturday in Merced.
In the first set, the two teams played a tight set. However, the Banana Slugs would force eight errors as they won the first set 25-22 and took a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, the Banana Slugs would lead from the beginning and committed only three errors in the set as they won the set 25-14 and expanded their match lead to 2-0. In the third set, the Banana Slugs had two more kills than the Golden Bobcats as the Banana Slugs won the third set 25-20 and won the match 3-0.
For UC Santa Cruz, Tatum Novitzky had a match high twelve kills and for UC Merced, Madison Mullane had ten kills. Sophie Seiberth had a match high nineteen assists for UC Santa Cruz and Genna Garrett had fifteen for UC Merced. Alison Ota led the Banana Slugs with a match high twenty one digs and Salamasina Satele had thirteen digs for the Golden Bobcats.
The Banana Slugs will have two matches on their next game day. They will take on USCAA opponent West Coast Baptist College and NCAA Division III opponent Occidental College on October 3rd in Los Angeles. The match against West Coast Baptist will start at 10 am and the match against Occidental will start at 1 pm.
