Lady Slugs Finish First Among DIII Teams

SAN DIEGO, CA -- The Lady Slugs ran in the Aztec Invitational this past Saturday in San Diego; finishing 4th overall and 1st among NCAA Division III teams. Junior Danielle Zelinski was once again the top runner for the Slugs, finishing 18th in 20:32 over the 5k course at Balboa Park. The freshman trio of Bree Justus, Tamara Torlakson, and Carina Hendricks finished right behind Zelinski in 20th, 22nd, and 26th respectively. Senior team captain Holly Shisler rounded out the scoring for the squad in 43rd place. Marrield Berry (FR), and Kristen Lee (FR) also ran well in their first race in UCSC uniforms. Most impressive for the squad was the fact that only 18 seconds separated the first to fourth finishers for the Slugs.

Next up for the team is the Willamette Invite in Salem, Oregon on Oct. 2nd. The meet is the largest Division III meet in the Northwest and will have many of the West Region's top teams participating.
