It's Hard Being a DIII Independent!

Without a conference meet to run in on conference weekend, the Slugs headed down the coast to race in the Run Forrest Run 5K road race on Sunday in Monterey. Taking advantage of perfect race conditions and a fast road course, the Slugs continued their record setting ways of this season.

With Forrest Gump as the official starter, Tamara Torlakson (JR) broke her own personal best and school record for 5K with an outstanding 18:11 clocking, making her the overall female winner in the race. The Slugs got back to the pack running they have shown over the years with Olivia Vegh (SR), Ashley Stalzer (FR), Miriam Hartig (SO), Khadja Bonet (FR), Katy Haynes (JR), Angie Laurence (SO), and Devon Orme (SO) all finishing within 50 seconds of each other! In addition, Vegh, Stalzer, Hartig, Haynes, and Laurence all set lifetime bests for 5K. Freshman Raeann Davis also ran a lifetime best, finishing in 20:52. Jo Beck (JR) was close behind in 21:03, with Danielle Goldberg (FR) finishing the Slug attack in 21:31, also a personal best.

The crowds at the race loved seeing the Banana Slugs show their stuff, and the fast times give the squad a lot of confidence heading into the West Region Championships in Chino, CA on November 11th.  The Top 2 teams and Top 7 individuals in the race qualify for the NCAA DIII Championships in Ohio on November 18th, and the Slugs hope to send some runners there for the first time in school history.

Come down to beautiful Chino and watch some great cross country action!

Go Slugs!!!
